Pokea salamu kutoka Kenya,
(Receive greetings from Kenya)
Well, I made it safely to Kenya without any major mishaps. Praise God! Thanks to all who have been praying for me and the rest of the team. My luggage was actually lost on the way to prefield training, but the airline found it the day before we flew out of the US. We are staying on a large campus that includes a college and two seminaries. It is a very large gated compound with plenty of room to walk around after we get home from the slums each day.
I'm sitting in a cyber cafe in Nairobi right now, so I won't be able to write much. We have been doing orientation for the first couple of days in order to get people acclimated to the new culture. Sunday will probably be our first day going to the slums, so pray for us. That will be a very difficult day for everyone emotionally and spiritually. Today we are on a scavenger hunt in the city!
We have a great team of different ages, backgrounds, and missions experience. About half of us have been to Kenya before, which is really helpful for those who are about to experience the slums for the first time.
It has been wonderful to reunite with the Kenyan pastors and a few of my Kenyan friends. In the next few days, I should see the rest of the people from last summer. Please pray for our team as we get started and learn to work and live together. So far, things are going really well, so keep up the praying!
I'll give more details, but for now know that I am safe and the Lord is working.
Kwaheri,
Mark
